Well here is my sample post, I decided to do it about Merry Dream Eater since I didn’t like too much Gosick.
Sorry I didn’t put up any pics, the thing is I don’t know how to take screencaps.
Anyway, I hope you like it.
Merry Dream Eater 01
Everything starts with our female main lead, Merry Nightmare, waking up from her nap over some piled garbage in the middle of an alley, thing that apparently doesn’t bother her as she is dreaming peacefully. Not until some crows think her body is a good place to eat over, she gets up – she doesn’t seem to like them.
She is our typical neko girl with neko ears, except this time she has purple hair ( or whatever color that is) and she can float short distances ( she did float did she?).
She is surrounded by a lot of old abandoned dark buildings and some rusty pipes that keep light away from the alley. Over one of the buildings there is a big clock and behind it a strange door to who knows where.
She stands up and leaves. Then regular opening, nothing outstanding.
We get back to the show with our male lead, Yumeji Fujiwara, who is in some creepy place full of crows, cans of tuna, skulls, odd buildings and evil cats that run after him. They chase him until they get their hands on him, but unfortunately for them, a hen cackles that time’s out!
Why is it time out? they don’t say why, but their leader tells him he will soon meet his boss. They just vanish after that and he wakes up from his dream.
Next day. He goes to school and we get introduced to his childhood friend, Tachibana Isana, and the couple of stereotypical friends we always get. One a girl and the other a weird guy that keeps writing on his notebook a lot of unfunny comments full of non-sense on what others say.
Ohh yes, I almost forgot, as totally normal childhood friends, Tachibana and Yumeji, live on the same house. I guess the producers have to follow the common successful cliches.
Already in school we learn that Yumeji can predict what people will dream by looking some colored light circles that cover people’s silhouette. Blue, yellow and green seem to be good colored circles, but black means nightmare for you tonight.
Then we have literature club meeting, where we get the best moment of the episode. When Yumeji says his dream is to become a novelist, Meshijima-sensei teaches us what is the greatest dream men can have: “My dream is to eat delicious rice every day” while he has some rice-balls, making the most memorable moment so far. That was just a Big LOL!
After class, Yumeji was walking normally when Merry falls over him from literally nowhere, accompanied with some crows. It’s the same repeated scene where girl falls over boy, the only thing is this time we get the strange girl that doesn’t mind being on top of a guy, and the even more rare type of boy that doesn’t get flustered having a girl on top of him!…well at least something isn’t so cliched on this anime.
After she stands up, she realizes she lost her hat. She walks away looking for it. Then he finds her hat, and below it a cat. It seems that her hat is related to some sort of connection between real and Dream’s world, as he gets into the dream world after he lifts up the hat.
Well, we really aren’t sure he is in the dream world. It even says “Dreams and reality mix together”, so we can’t be sure where he is.
Being there he meets the cat’s boss, “Chaser John Doe”, who explains him that:
1. The cats and other supernatural beings can get into the real world, but for that they need a “vessel” from the “real” world, which can be Yumeji’s body.
2. Yumeji and Merry can go to the “dreams” world as well
Chaser then tries to get him in order to use him as a “vessel” to get into the real world. Yumeji runs for his life until he gets to some place where a can is rolling over the floor. He stops the can from rolling and hurts himself, which lead him to think that he isn’t actually dreaming, because he supposedly can’t be hurt in a dream.
Then Chaser appears into whatever “world” or “dimension” this is and says he will take Yumeji’s body, but before that can happen Merry comes to the scene and saves Yumeji.
From the conversation we learn a few more things:
1. They are in a space created by the chaser in which only Yumeji and himself are supposed to be able to enter. Even though he says that, Merry gets into it looking for her hat and fights him.
From that we can assume that there are more than just the “real” world and the “dreams” world. We know that there are some people who can create their own worlds, and others that can get into other’s people worlds. What he still don’t know is how do they do to get into different worlds. I bet the rolling cans of tuna, the mirrors and other objects are used to move between worlds but it’s still too soon to tell.
2. Supernatural beings such as the chaser and Merry don’t have a physical body. Merry’s body is actually a vessel, or so says the chaser. Merry says she doesn’t know how she got her body, as she can’t remember how she got dragged to that world. In fact, Merry doesn’t even know where she is or how to return to her world. The chaser calls her a “lost sheep”.
3. Merry wants to return to her world: the dreams world, and wants the chaser to take her there. On the contrary, the Chaser wants to go to the real world. As Merry doesn’t want him to go to he real world she blocks his way and fights with him.
4. After she defeats him, he says “I see, I see…so you must be the one”, she asks him surprised if he knows anything about her. He says that he doesn’t know about her, but that is obviously not true. He leaves vanishing into the air saying:
“So the lighthouse doesn’t just light up, huh?”. I have no clue what it means yet, I guess I’ll have to wait to get more answers.
When the chaser ends to vanish into the air, the dream ends and Yumeji gets back to the real world. Merry is there too, and she wants Yumeji to “summon” the chaser again. It seems he can do that, or at least will be able to that in the future ( like some sort of secret power), but that’s just mere speculation.
She cries as he tells him he cannot do that. He holds her hand and she faints and falls into his arms while crying
In the last 2 scenes we get chaser wondering about what will happen with the 2 worlds, and saying that it’s worth to chase. And in the last scene there’s a strange woman opening her mouth in a strange form and like staring off into space.
That’s all for now.
